Luke Van Roekel received a Ph.D. in atmospheric science from Colorado State University. He held a joint postdoc with at CU Boulder and NCAR. Following this he held an assistant professorship of Atmospheric Science at Northland College. In 2015, Luke joined LANL in T-3 as a part of the Climate Ocean and Sea Ice Modeling team. He was the co-lead of the Water cycle campaign on the Energy Exascale Earth System Modeling project and is now the Ocean group lead.
He is also the PI of a new SciDAC project focused on the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation. Luke's work is primarily focused on climate modeling with a focus in modeling of turbulence within the climate system.
